How’s that New Year’s resolution panning out for ya? That YA fiction novel you started coming along as planned? Been making more of an effort with your parents? And the running. How’s your running going? Every morning — wasn’t that the solemn declaration?
If you, like most humans, struggle with sticking to the kind of things that will actually make your life better, you might want to look into joining a running club. Sociology has plenty to say about how running clubs work to keep you motivated; they provide camaraderie and improve your form through coaching. But really, we all know it comes down to good old laziness, shaming and competition. Whatever works, right?
The Nike+ Run Club is one of the Sydney’s largest local run crews and next week, as part of their Month of Max, they’ll be hitting the streets under the guide of Nike coaches and pacers. Registered Nike+ Run Club participants will have the opportunity to join in on a special Air Max-themed run along a specially designed route which will focus on Sydney’s unique heritage and culture. Kicking off and concluding at Harmony Park (behind the Air Max Lab on Goulburn St Surry Hills) all runners will also be treated to refreshments and a secret Air Max surprise.
It’s totally free (though you have to register and we advise you get in quick-sticks) and the run is designed to suit all abilities with three pace groups available. Don’t worry — we’ve been assured the event is equally focussed on exploring Sydney’s unique local culture as much as it is making you drown in your own sweat.
