Yesterday morning, the Queensland National Parks Service took a break from posting pictures of friendly sea turtles and idyllic coastlines to kindly remind us that we all live in a waking nightmare and will almost certainly be devoured by something before the week is through.

With photos supplied from a woman recently visiting tropical North Queensland, the page detailed the gory showdown of two enormous crocodiles in Rinyirru National Park. Or, more accurately: the moment a real-life dinosaur erupted from its monstrous lair and decided to casually snack on what we had previously thought was a crocodile as though it was a delicious little twiggy stick.

Here’s some music to set the mood:

Using the carnage as a teaching opportunity, the state parks service also pointed out that this had taken place near one of their signs warning tourists about the dangers of crocs and posted their ‘Be Croc Wise‘ guide alongside each photo.

Here’s some select advice from that guide which we would all do well to listen to:

  • Pay attention to warning signs and don’t swim in water where crocs may live.
  • Don’t leave fish scraps near the edge of the water or around your camp site.
  • Don’t provoke, harass, or feed crocs — it is illegal and dangerous.
  • Get the fuck out of this country while you can.
  • RUN. NOW. SAVE YOURSELF.
