Funny Or Die Finally Made That ‘Handmaid’s Tale’/Trump Mash-Up You’ve Been Waiting For
This works...a little bit too well.
A lot has been written about the disturbing parallels between the Trump administration and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. One is the story of a dystopian America where women are forced to fight against a totalitarian regime for their civil and reproductive rights.
The other is a 10-episode adaptation of a Margaret Atwood novel starring Elisabeth Moss.
Really driving home the similarities between the truth and fiction is a brand new video released by Funny or Die over the weekend that combines footage from The Handmaid’s Tale with clips of President Trump and his wife Melania.
“We have a great relationship,” insists Melania at one point, convincing no one. “I don’t think I should be scared of anything.”
Also featured: Trump’s infamous remarks about how women who have abortions should face “some sort of punishment” as well as his insistence that “nobody has more respect for women than I do.”
So yeah, it’s not so much funny as it is incredibly bleak and upsetting.
The Handmaid’s Tale will be available on SBS On Demand from July 6.
