Heads up, ageing music nerds: starting next month, the ABC is bringing back a run of classic Countdown episodes.

The episodes will air every Sunday night for 13 weeks starting from September 15, featuring performances and interviews from legendary artists such as Tina Turner, David Bowie, Split Enz, The Church, I’m Talking, and Blondie.

What’s more, the ABC has enlisted artists including John Paul Young, Kate Ceberano, Steve Kilbey and Richard Clapton to offer guest narration for the episodes — and yes, Gavin Wood will be returning as the Countdown announcer.

According to Double Jthese eps have been “meticulously restored” so they’ll look and sound “better than ever.” The ABC has also been digging around in the show’s archives to find performances never-before-seen by the public.

The beloved music show ran from 1974 to 1987, hosted by the hat-wearing Aussie icon Molly Meldrum. There are plenty of stellar moments from the show’s history — but here’s hoping the ABC find time to air this one, when Meldrum absolutely lost his shit while interviewing Prince Charles.
