George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Gwen Stefani Did Carpool Karaoke, And It Was Super Weird

I think I had this dream on painkillers once.

One time I got my wisdom teeth out and when I woke up from my anaesthetic-induced slumber, I told the nurse that the whole time I was out, I had been dreaming of hanging out with Lindsay Lohan (this was a lie, I was just trying to make small talk). James Corden’s latest Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show, which inexplicably stars Gwen Stefani, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, is similarly like something that someone who is on a very heavy dose of painkillers would dream up.

Is this real?

First James and Gwen sang ‘Don’t Speak’ and discussed how Gwen Stefani seems to defy time. Then James was all, “Oh we need more people to be in carpool lane” so that’s when George Clooney got in the car. But there still wasn’t enough people, so George Clooney called someone? And that person was Julia Roberts?

If you would like to see three ageless angels and James Corden (sorry, James) sing ‘Hollaback Girl’ (and really, I think you do) feel free to watch the video below.

Apparently George Clooney and Julia Roberts were promoting a new film called Money Monster, but this never comes up. My favourite part is when George makes a face like: “I hate this and I want to die” and Julia is like “lol”.

Mum and Dad having a sick one.

They sang ‘We Are The Champions’ (“Those are hard notes!” said George), discussed their favourite movie lines (George’s is from O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Julia’s is from Ocean’s Eleven) and George and Julia really, really tried their best to to sing.

At one point, after everyone had decided they didn’t really know what ‘hollaback’ meant, Gwen Stefani explained that ‘Hollaback Girl’ is actually about an enemy who she wouldn’t name. “All I’ll say is: I won,” said Gwen, smugly. “This shit IS bananas!” said George.

Never change, George.
