Anything Lawrence Leung does is generally pretty great. The Australian comedian has been doing stand-up for well over a decade, and one of his first shows is now being turned into a feature film. He’s best known for the ABC documentary series Lawrence Leung Choose Your Own Adventureand has more recently been killing it on SBS2’s The Feed.

He also made Offspring 100 percent more enjoyable by signing on for a guest spot as a doctor called Elvis.

Now, he’s created his own sitcom Maximum Choppage — and, considering the fact that it incorporates kung fu, a quasi-superhero, and his familiar style of adorably awkward comedy, it’s safe to say it’s going to be kind of incredible.

Earlier this month, when we listed it as one of our most exciting shows of the new year, we described it as something akin to Scott Pilgrim set in Sydney’s outer west. With the full trailer now released I think we can officially declare Lawrence Leung Australia’s new Michael Cera.

PS. I’d also like to formally congratulate ABC2 for green-lighting a joke about “monkey-fisting”. Between this and Josh Thomas’ Emmy-nominated show Please Like Meyou’re looking better than ever.

Maximum Choppage premieres on ABC2 on February 24.
