Each day, somewhere on the internet, an editorial is being published that decries or celebrates the future of journalism in the digital age. Are sites that deal in clickbait and virality forcing news organisations to abandon their old values, or are they shining a light on the only way forward if traditional outlets want to survive? Can short lists and cat videos get the view counts editors need to subsidise investigative pieces, or have they lowered the attention span of an audience that doesn’t care about real news any more?

This Festival of Dangerous Ideas panel features a vast array from the old school and new school: the Managing Director of the ABC, Mark Scott; the editor of Buzzfeed Australia, Simon Crerar: the Content Director of The Sound Alliance (inthemix, FasterLouder, SameSame and Junkee), Tim Duggan; and the deputy editor of The Australian and former editor-in-chief of the Sydney Morning Herald, Peter Fray. It is being chaired by the content director of Mumbrella, Tim Burrows.

The panel is being broadcast live from the Sydney Opera House at AEST 10:30am on Sunday August 31.
