"That was the first toy I had!"
When it was announced that writer, rapper and comedian Donald Glover was cast as the iconic smuggler Lando Calrissian in the new Han Solo movie, the internet was united for a moment in communal joy. This has only happened five times*, and Glover’s casting was one of those times.

Donald Glover Will Play Lando Calrissian In The ‘Han Solo’ Movie, Proving Dreams Can Come True
Today on The Ellen Show, Donald Glover reiterated that this news is “a very big deal” to him too, given the significance that Lando (originally played by Billy Dee Williams) had for him growing up. “That was the first toy I had,” he said. “Lando. My dad gave it to me. I had a Darth Vader one, too.”
“I’m very honoured. There’s this thing going around on the internet of me in a Star Wars t-shirt when I was in high school,” Glover said, while Ellen panicked that she wasn’t up-to-date with an internet meme.

In between talking about his new show Atlanta (which he described as “Twin Peaks with rappers”) Glover told Ellen that he was excited to take the role, but also apprehensive — particularly given his mother’s advice was: “Don’t mess it up.” There is no way that Donald Glover is messing this up, case closed.
