Even headbangers were little kids once upon a time. That seems to be the thinking behind Mickey’s latest album, featuring classic tracks from iconic Disney musicals reimagined as heavy metal songs.

Metal Disney is comprised of metal covers of beloved Disney tunes, including ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin, ‘Under the Sea’ from The Little Mermaid and ‘It’s A Small World After All’ from that godforsaken theme park ride of the same name. Does it work? Honestly, yeah, it kind of does.

“It’s all the stuff that I grew up on, Vescera told Rolling Stone. “You would think the opposite, being hard rock guys or in that kind of field of music…but everybody loves it. It’s crazy.”

Tim Rice, who won a pair of Oscars for penning the lyrics to ‘A Whole New World’ and ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ (which is also featured on the album) told the magazine that “I think a good song, especially one with a decent tune, can always be done in almost any way.”

“For most people, Disney was part of their childhood and however you wind up you usually tend to have good memories of your childhood musical loves,” added Rice. “You tend to stick with it to a certain extent so even if you become a spaced-out [member of] Mötley Crüe, you probably still love Nellie the Elephant  – even if you can’t admit it.”
