This ain’t no good. Yvette Nicole Brown, who has played Shirley on Community for five seasons, has announced she’s leaving the show to spend more time with her sick dad.
The news means that three of the original Greendale Seven — Brown, Chevy Chase and Donald Glover — have now bowed out. Add that to the conflicting commitments of Jonathan Banks, who’ll be reprising his Breaking Bad role in Better Call Saul, and John Oliver, who’s got his own thing going on now, and Community is going to look very different to what fans remember from a few seasons ago.
Farewell, Shirley. Your patented mix of sugary Christian sweetness and “I’ll fuck you up” anger can never be replaced.
