Carrie Bickmore Thought Of Christopher Pyne As She Was Giving Birth; Told Him So On TV

He took it rather well, all things considered.

Recent Gold Logie winner Carrie Bickmore, who now-famously wore a beanie during her acceptance speech to raise awareness of brain cancer, was joined by her fellow Project panellists and Education Minister Christopher Pyne in donning beanies last night to help the cause. Thought I’d get that out of the way early, because five otherwise nicely-dressed people wearing daggy beanies is the least weird part of the video you’re about to watch.

Christopher Pyne is many things — a controversial government frontbencher, the target of bee-related political activism, possibly a Horcrux — but his utilitarian value as an impromptu birthing aid was not widely known until last night, when Bickmore recounted how she pictured an imaginary Pyne saying “I’m a fixer” over and over while she was literally giving birth to a human baby.

Christopher Pyne gets a lot of criticism from Junkee, but credit to the guy — he handled that well. Like, impressively well. He did not wake up yesterday morning mentally prepared to have that revelation imparted to him on live TV. This may be the most impressive thing he’s ever done.
