When Caitlyn Jenner came out as transgender last month, she was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. Her interview with Diane Sawyer ignited an important and overdue mainstream conversation about the trans community, and her Vanity Fair cover even had the conservative media on board leaving Jon Stewart near speechless.

But while people were refreshingly chill about Jenner’s news concerning her gender identity, the brunt of the negative response instead fell on her announcement of a new reality show. Produced for E!, Jenner told Sawyer the show would document her experiences through this highly personal journey, which led some to raise concerns. Was this going to be a show with useful insight into trans issues that can help increase awareness and understanding, or was it just another hyped-up instalment of Keeping Up With The Kardashians stacked with privilege that could further obscure the trans community at large?

Now, the first teasers for I Am Cait have been released and it thankfully looks a bit more like the former. Whether you’re keen on reality TV or not, it’ll be well worth checking out.

A slightly longer trailer went online a few days ago too. It’s entirely possible that the final few moments are the best thing that E! have ever produced.

I Am Cait will be an eight-part series of one-hour episodes. It premieres in the US on July 26.
