We regret to inform you that Bill Shorten has done it again. Done what, you ask? Oh, just attempted to connect to voters in a very weird way that leads to him being lambasted as a massive joke.

This time he’s chosen to appear on Nova for a rap battle with shock jock Ray Hadley, and there’s only one word to describe it: white. Really, really white.

Shorten dropped his rhymes to 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’ on Fitzy & Wippa this morning, and honestly all you need to know is that the trainwreck opened with “I’m Bill Shorten, I’m head of my pack” and closed with our federal opposition leader dabbing while grinning maniacally.

Fitzy and Wippa also bellow and punch the air after every single line. It turns out this is because they knew Shorten was actually going to be the relative high point of this broadcast, because — and steel yourself — 63-year-old shock jock and similarly white bloke Ray Hadley then waddles in yelling “what’s doin’ homie” and dabbing furiously in a basketball singlet, backward cap and gold chain. It’s all very uncomfortable to watch.

Unfortunately, the one thing Hadley forgot to appropriate from black culture is actual talent. Despite claiming to have practised for “three hours”, he’s absolutely terrible. As in, makes Shorten look competent. His only redeeming moment is calling Turnbull a wanker, but honestly we can all just do that from the comfort of our own homes without inflicting terrible rhymes on poor unsuspecting Friday morning radio listeners.

Anyway, thank god Shorten concludes by acknowledging that he’s fairly unlikely to rap again, because mate, once was enough. Some might say too much. You can see the whole thing below, and then log off and do something nice in an attempt to forget.
