Spin-off series are a dangerous business. More often than not they go horribly wrong and forever cast a crummy shadow over the much, much better show they originally stemmed from. And, with their infuriating PR stunts, bizarre music videosteaser trailersshort trailers, and cryptic little hints about casting and plot, all signs pointed to people losing interest in Better Call Saul completely. We are not to toyed with when it comes to Breaking Bad, thank you.

Now, the producers have finally stopped screwing around and just given us the whole trailer so we can judge the show for ourselves. The verdict? It doesn’t look half bad.

As was established in the earlier trailer, it’s definitely not as much of a comedy as was first imagined. Instead the story follows the early career of Saul Goodman as small-time attorney James M. McGill while he makes his first steps in the world of professional sleazebaggery. It’s kind of like a real-life Lionel Hutz biography if The Simpsons were R-rated and Hutz ever saw the consequences of his actions.

In terms of Breaking Bad relevance, we now know that Walt and Jesse will not be appearing in the first season, but Mike Ehrmantraut will feature pretty heavily. Honestly, the fact that at some point Mike plays a surly parking attendant is reason enough to watch this show.

Just look at that winning smile.

Better Call Saul premieres February 8 in the US.
