Benedict Cumberbatch Looks Brilliant As Tragic Genius Alan Turing In The New ‘Imitation Game’ Trailer
This movie's long overdue.
Benedict Cumberbatch has made a name for himself playing tortured, misunderstood geniuses. Now he has another one to throw on the pile with The Imitation Game, the upcoming film about the life of Alan Turing, the brilliant British mathematician who led the effort to crack the Nazi Enigma code.
Then widely believed to be unbreakable, Turing’s work to break the Enigma code saved countless Allied lives and was described by Winston Churchill as the single biggest contribution to Allied victory in the war, but Turing was also gay. In 1952 he was charged with ‘gross indecency’ and, rather than go to prison, subjected himself to experimental hormone treatments and chemical castration. He killed himself two years later.
In December last year Turing received a royal pardon from the Queen, after an apology from Prime Minister Gordon Brown was issued in 2009. The Imitation Game
