Benedict Cumberbatch Is Somehow Even More British Than Usual In The Trailer For The New ‘Sherlock’ Special

So many moustaches.

If Boobytrap Cummerbund in aggressively British period-drama costume is your thing, then you’re in luck. In a one-off special designed to stand alone outside the continuity of the broader Sherlock storyline, the end-of-year special does away entirely with the modern-day-Sherlock Holmes conceit of the show and goes back to the 19th Century England of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original books.

Which is not to say there isn’t still a healthy dose of internet-era snark and carefully cultivated sexual tension between Holmes and Watson for the fandom. Moustaches are good like that.

There’s no air date for the special yet, but given British TV’s long, confusing infatuation with the Christmas special it’s safe to say that this thing will see the light of day by the end of the year.

The Sherlock special will air exclusively on Stan shortly after its premiere.
