Amy Poehler And Seth Meyers Rip Apart A ‘Sports Illustrated’ Bro For Talking Smack About Women’s Soccer
If you write for a lad's mag that occasionally does some sports coverage, your opinion on women's sport is probably invalid.
The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup has seen a corresponding explosion of the number of garbage “jokes” about women’s sport floating around on the internet, along with an equally steep rise in the number of your Facebook friends you realise are weird jerks all of a sudden. Despite a lack of network TV interest and every game being played on turf as opposed to grass — a laughably amateur setting that would never be entertained for a men’s professional soccer match — the World Cup has garnered huge interest online. One of the highlights of the tournament thus far came during England’s 2-1 victory over Norway on Tuesday, when back Lucy Bronze scored this incredible goal:
And here some people (ahem, @Andy_Benoit) argue that women’s soccer isn’t worth watching. https://t.co/0IdV8BdDH3

In response to that, Sports Illustrated columnist and local bro Andy Benoit had some pearls of wisdom to share about women’s sport in general:
Turns out not everyone’s mad keen to hear the opinion of a writer for a lad’s mag that occasionally does some sports coverage. Benoit’s bropinions have quickly become something of an international joke; the entire Norway team, to their eternal credit, responded by making a spoof “tell-all” expose about how terrible women’s soccer is.
And to make the whole thing sweeter, Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler have jumped into the fray, calling out Benoit and network TV’s reluctance to broadcast women’s soccer at a time when people can actually watch it. Poehler’s advice for everyone to “just get off Twitter” is stellar advice, by the way.
Benoit, for his part, quickly deleted the Tweet and offered an apology of sorts.
My sincere apologies for last night’s senseless tweets. I got carried away responding to playful ribbing ….

…. and, in my stupidity, overcompensated by saying something ignorant and extreme. 100% mistake on my part, for which I’m deeply sorry.
