Adele Asks Grammys “What The Fuck” Beyoncé Has To Do To Win Album Of The Year

In the post-show press conference Adele did not hold back.

There was a major upset at the Grammys today when Adele won both Record of the Year for ‘Hello’ and Album of the Year for 25, over Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ and Lemonade.

When Adele, who has always professed to be a huge fan of Beyoncé, won Record of the Year, she shouted out “my idol” Beyoncé and recognised the importance of Lemonade.

Then about five minutes later when she won Album of the Year, she tearfully said that she “can’t possibly accept this award”. “My artist of my life is Beyoncé and this album, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental… we appreciate that and all the artists here adore you,” she said very sincerely, as Beyoncé cried in the crowd. “You are our light.”

“The way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel, is empowering.”

Apparently afterwards, Adele broke her award in half and gave the other half to Beyoncé. Understandably, many people were upset that Beyoncé did not win these awards, particularly as this is the third time she has missed out.

After the Grammys, Adele was even more determined to convey that as far as she was concerned, Lemonade should have won. “The reason I felt like I needed to say something was that my album of the year was Lemonade,” she said in the post-awards press conference. She then talked about being in Grade 6 and performing the Destiny’s Child song ‘No No No’ at a school assembly. “I fell in love immediately with her,” she says. “I felt like it was her time to win. My view is like what the fuck does she have to do to win Album of the Year?”

Adele then expertly mentioned that “the Grammys are very traditional”(i.e. Adele is a more ‘traditional’ choice than Beyoncé, for obvious reasons) but that even she thought that “this would be the year that they kind of go with the tide”.

Well, it kind of went exactly how Frank Ocean said it would.
