ABC2 is set to become a dedicated comedy channel, when the national broadcaster relaunches the channel as ABC Comedy in early December.

ABC Comedy will feature an array of comedy programs from 7:30pm each night. Comedian Tom Ballard will host a nightly comedy news show, Tonightly with Tom Ballard, each evening at 9pmBallard promises the show will be “funnier than Q&A“.

Other programming highlights include Squinters starring Tim Minchin, Jacki Weaver, Miranda Tapsel and Sam Simmons, and a sequel series to Very Small Business titled Back in Very Small Business. The channel will also broadcast stand-up comedy specials as well as the most recent seasons of international shows such as Fleabag and Inside Amy Schumer.

The launch will also coincide with the release of a number of new short-form series that will screen on ABC Comedy as well as on iView. These include Kiki and Kitty, an absurdist comedy about a woman played by Nakkiah Lui who encounters her own vagina in human form, and #CelesteChallengeAccepted from comedian Celeste Barber, whose Instagram account is dedicated to taking the piss out of celebrity photo shoots (it’s very good).

ABC Comedy is set to launch on December 4.
