5 Surprising Things You Miss About Your Siblings When You Move Out
Life gets pretty quiet when there's no one around to pick fights with.
Siblings can be annoying at the best of times. They steal your things without asking, invade your personal space and really know how to grind your gears.
As much as we hate to admit it, deep down we love our siblings, and we surprisingly miss them like crazy when we first move out of home for uni.
Here are some weird things you inevitably miss about your siblings when you leave them.
#1 Their Extreme Honesty
We all make mistakes, and sometimes we need someone to keep us in line. Your siblings aren’t afraid to tell it like it is and even if they hurt your feelings a bit, you know they have your best interests at heart.
They’re not afraid to tell you your joke wasn’t that funny, that your outfit looks terrible, that you’re behaving like a spoilt brat, or that your awful breath could kill a small child. You miss that honesty when they’re not around.
#2 All The Petty Fights
Siblings fight over absolutely everything, and a lot of these fights are about something pretty insignificant. I’ve even had fights with my siblings about which one of us is the dog’s favourite.
Life gets pretty quiet without your siblings around constantly picking fights with you. You can’t wait to get away from it all before you move out, but you kind of want to go back to it once you’re gone.
#3 Having Someone Who’s Always Got Your Back
You make heaps of new friends at uni, and they’ll tell you that they’re always there for you. And while you want to believe them, you just don’t really know until something actually happens.
There’s no doubt that your siblings are always on your side, and you know they’d go to the ends of the earth to protect you. Even if they think you’re completely wrong, they’ll be rooting for you.
#4 The Lifetime Worth Of Inside Jokes
You’re hanging out with your friends, and one of them says something that reminds you of something hilarious that happened with your sibling on a family holiday. You burst out laughing, and your friends think you’re going mad because they don’t see how that could be funny.
No matter how many times you try and explain the story to your friends, they just don’t understand it the same way your siblings do. You’ll miss laughing with your siblings everyday about stupid things when you’re not living together anymore.
#5 Having Someone Who Really Knows You
Your siblings know you inside and out. They were there for your first words, your first day of school, your first crush and your first break up.
It’s weird coming home to housemates you’ve known for less than a few months, and even living with your friends just isn’t the same. You miss the comfort of coming home to your siblings, and knowing you don’t have to pretend around them.
