5 Reasons Why That Mid-Year Holiday Can Wait
Hear us out.
When winter hits Australia, that mid-year summer getaway can seem like the most tempting thing in the world.
You’re thinking of cocktails by the pool, sunsets at the beach, or dancing the night away without a baggy winter jacket to weigh you down. But sometimes, we need to be reminded that though missing these trips may seem like the end of the world, there are always benefits to staying put for June and July.
If you’re not so convinced, read on. We bet we’ll have you considering it by the end.
#1 Savings Will Save You
Think about it. No classes = more shifts = more money! The mid-year break is the perfect time to save, and by skipping that Euro trip you’ll not only save a few hundred bucks, but you’ll be sure to make a few instead.
Trust me — you’ll be the one smugly paypassing that iced almond latte next semester while all the returned travellers try to sort their Euro coins from their Aussie dollars. Sounds pretty sweet, huh?
#2 Free Time Galore
The mid-year break is the absolute best time to catch up with those mates who might go a little AWOL during semester. No uni means no lectures, tutes or assignments — so basically, no excuses! This time of year is a great time to take a spin through your contact list and keep those friendships strong, one G&T at a time.
#3 Kick Those Goals
I am a to-do list fanatic, and find it really frustrating when uni, work and life in general doesn’t leave me any time to tick some big-ticket items off. So what better time than mid-year break to do some goal-setting? Whether it’s learning a language, hitting the gym or picking up a few books from the local library, all this free time you’ll gain will make for some fun and satisfying activities you normally wouldn’t have time to experience. Go hard or go home!
#4 Time For Yourself
Gone is the semester of self-care Sundays, when slapping on a face mask after a long week on campus seemed to solve every issue in life — because now you’ve got all the time in the world to treat yo self! Think bubble baths, spa days and comfy clothes, and make the mid-year break the most relaxing you possibly can. The rain and wintery weather outside make this step extra manageable and if possible, even more enjoyable.
#5 Reflect, Rebuild And Restore
Perhaps the biggest advantage of staying in your home environment over the mid-year break is having time to set yourself up for the best semester two possible. Whether it’s reflecting on what could have gone better in semester one, or flicking through some past essays to absorb some of that feedback a bit better, taking this time to prepare yourself can be invaluable. You’ll not only feel refreshed when O-Week hits, but you’ll be set up for a super productive semester — it’s a win-win really.
